At all of the places we have lived, for whatever reason, I have always left the Master bedroom not quite complete. Maybe it is because we got married young and lived on a tight budget, or because the bedroom door can be easily closed, or maybe a combination of the two. But when COVID hit and I realized just how much time we were going to be spending at home, I decided it was time to take on our Master bedroom.
I had collected things from here and there for years. But never really taken the time to put it all together. So with the new found time, I got to work. Here’s a picture of BEFORE, just in case you don’t believe me on how much this was needed! And I should confess this photo was taken during Christmas time when it was “decorated” — Yikes!

I found this painting at a local outdoor market and knew I wanted it somewhere in my house, but i just never found the right place. Until I did! And know I love it so much more. I then created a “design plan” (not a professional here!). I have to see everything before I buy. Those people who can look at something and just know it is the perfect piece, the right color, etc…well, that’s not me!

I put together this design board which helped visualize the elements, with the focal point being the painting I knew I loved.

I wanted the room to be neutral enough to be changed here and there over the seasons, but to still have a mixture of calming colors. I am extremely sentimental and so the rocking chair in the corner is the one my parents rocked myself and my sisters in when we were babies. When they moved they mentioned tossing it…what? I know! Luckily, they were easily convinced to ship it to me. I love seeing it everyday and feel like it brings a warmth to the room too.

All that to say, I can’t believe I didn’t do this sooner! If you have a master bedroom waiting for a face lift, do it! You won’t regret it.
